Last month's sales of five major department stores were all higher than last year's sales, partly due to the reaction to the state of emergency declared in the previous year and the decline in sales.

Five major department stores released preliminary sales figures for last month on the 1st.

According to this, compared to the same month last year, Takashimaya increased by 2.8%, Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store increased by 2.3%, Mitsukoshi Isetan Holdings and Sogo & Seibu increased by 2.2%, and Hankyu Hanshin Department Store increased by 1%.

This is because in February of last year, while the business hours continued to be shortened due to the state of emergency targeting the Tokyo metropolitan area, sales were down and sales increased during the Valentine's Day sales season. And high-priced items such as watches, bags and jewelery continue to perform well.

However, compared to February, when the infection began to spread in Japan, sales of each company fell by about 5% to 13%, and the sales situation is still severe.
