From next month, Japan Post and Sagawa Express, a major courier company, will start a demonstration experiment of a new service that allows the post office to pick up the parcels that the delivery destination customer had taken home in the absence.

As the labor shortage in the logistics industry becomes more serious, we hope to improve the efficiency of our operations.

This was announced by Japan Post and Sagawa Express at a joint press conference on the 1st.

According to the announcement, the two companies started joint operation of trucks between the collection and delivery bases in Tokyo and Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture from the 1st.

Also, in the past, if the customer at the delivery destination was absent, the driver would bring back the package, but from next month onward, we will conduct a demonstration experiment of a new service that can receive the package at the nearest post office according to the customer's request. , It means starting at some post offices in Tokyo.

As the labor shortage in the logistics industry becomes more serious, we would like to verify the effectiveness of the demonstration experiment, which will lead to a reduction in redelivery and an improvement in transportation efficiency.

Kazuhiro Nakagawa, director of Sagawa Express, said, "We would like to collaborate on a wide range of themes, such as sharing mutual issues, complementing each other's strengths, and developing services that enhance customer convenience."

In addition, Shinya Koike, Managing Executive Officer of Japan Post, said, "We would like to openly consider collaboration in order to continue sustainable growth in the future."
