US wheat and corn prices rise sharply after the Russian attack on Ukraine

US wheat and corn futures rose to the highest daily trading level on Thursday, while soybean prices hit their highest level since 2012 after Russian forces attacked Ukraine, raising fears of a global supply impact.

Wheat prices rose for a third day in a row, reaching their highest level in more than nine years, while corn jumped to an eight-month high.

Chicago Board of Trade May wheat futures jumped 5.7 percent to about $9.34 a bushel, the highest price since July 2021.

Corn rose 5.1 percent to $7.16 a bushel, its highest since June 10.

And soybean contracts for the month of May rose 4.2 percent to $ 17.41 a bushel, recording a rise for the sixth consecutive session.

And earlier in the session, it reached its highest level since September 2021 at $17.56.
