Iberdrola obtained a net profit of

3,885 million euros in 2021

, which represents both a record and an increase of 8% compared to the previous year.

In addition, it also means that the company exceeded the objectives that had been set for the year.

As explained by the company in a press release, the result was due to "good operating behavior in the United States and Brazil."

"Thanks to the new installed capacity, the greater weight of regulated network assets and financial strength," continues the firm, it managed to exceed the goal of 3,800 million.

"If they had not maintained the policy of fixed prices for their clients, this benefit would have increased substantially," they point out.

The gross operating result (Ebitda) of the group

exceeded 12,000 million euros last year

.

In other words, it experienced a growth of 20% compared to the 2020 financial year, in this case driven by networks and renewable generation, but also "the investment effort and operational evolution".

With this figure, the company advances its gross profit estimate for 2022 by one year.

In fact, during this year the group led by Ignacio Sánchez Galán expects to achieve a profit of between 4,000 and 4,200 million euros.

Iberdrola also registered a record in investments made in 2021: they reached

9,940 million

, 3% more than the previous year.

The vast majority of them (90% of the total) were allocated to the development of new renewable capacity (44% of this percentage) and to smart grids (45%), with the United States (28% and 2,736 million euros) and Spain ( 24% and 2,386 million) as favorite markets.

Ignacio Galán considered that the acceleration of investments allows the group "to grow at a higher rate than expected."

"These results reflect the success of a sustainable model and encourage us to continue working towards a low-carbon economy," he added.
