After a drop linked to the health crisis in 2020, the number of technical inspections increased significantly in 2021. For motorists, this is becoming a time of anxiety since the French are keeping their cars longer and longer and inspections linked to pollution vehicles intensify.

On average, one in five vehicles must pass a counter-visit, motorists are therefore invited to anticipate in order to avoid this second obligatory passage through the technical control center.

The points of failure most frequently noted relate to lighting, tires, brakes, pollution or even the condition of license plates.

If the French keep their car longer and longer, it is better to multiply small repairs, as recommended by Karine Bonnet, director of the Dekra group, leader in technical control in France.

"The older a vehicle gets, the more it needs to be maintained. The technical inspection therefore also allows you to check before something breaks or before having to change an entire component. The small degree of wear classified as a minor failure allows you to be able to change, maintain or monitor before having to change everything," she explains.

With the aging of the French vehicle fleet, corrosion is an element to be monitored even more closely and which can be avoided with simple regular maintenance.

Tire wear can also be easily observed upstream by motorists, who must be extra vigilant since the average age of vehicles inspected has increased by 15 months over the past 10 years.
