Released Thursday evening on YouTube and Twitter, the new song by Turkish popstar Tarkan immediately became a hit with very political overtones… The title, in which the artist promises the imminent end of “

suffering

”, has been seen nearly 8 million times in less than 24 hours.

The lyrics of “

Geççek

 ” – contraction of “geçecek”, literally “

it will pass

” – are explicit enough for the opposition to use it as a rallying chant, and impersonal enough to avoid Tarkan getting into too much trouble. .

At least, he can hope.

The popstar sings there, for example, “

everything has an end, this suffering will also pass

 ”, “

 leave us alone, dad

” or even, depending on how you choose to translate, “

he/she/it will go away like he/she/ it came

 ”.

But the song doesn't mention any names or political facts, nor does its music video.

The latter shows the bored Turks in traffic jams, at work, at home who start smiling, then dancing when they hear the first verse.

An increasingly committed artist

On the networks, the opposition – all parties combined – took up the refrain #geççek in chorus and thanked the artist.

Power supporters, on the other hand, accused Tarkan of working for the opposition, or even for “

enemies of Turkey

 ”.

The singer with a 30-year career has shown himself to be more and more committed in recent years, in particular against violence against women, government projects that harm the environment, or even social and religious pressure on young people.
