5.26 million passengers through Abu Dhabi International Airport during 2021

Abu Dhabi International Airport received 5.26 million passengers during the year 2021 as a result of the increase in passenger traffic during the last quarter, during which it recorded the movement of 2.43 million passengers, or 46% of the total number of passengers received by Abu Dhabi, during the year 2021.

Abu Dhabi Airports announced today that Abu Dhabi Airport recorded an increase in the number of flights, which amounted to 74,176 flights during the year, an increase of 21.5% compared to 61,034 flights in 2020.

"The noticeable rise in passenger traffic during the last three months of the year is a clear indication of the sector's recovery and the growing demand," said Sherif Al Hashimi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports.

He added, "We expect that passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport will double this year, reaching 10.7 million passengers, in light of the spread of vaccination programs, the easing of travel restrictions around the world and the increasing demand among travelers."

Al Hashemi said: “Our focus on the health, safety and comfort of passengers at Abu Dhabi International Airport has enhanced our passengers’ experience during the year, as we have provided a fully equipped center for PCR services at the airport, in addition to the use of non-touch technologies, self-delivery systems and smart waiting technology to prevent crowding during peak periods.

And the airline networks at Abu Dhabi International Airport expanded during 2021, which currently serves 103 destinations, compared to only 75 destinations in 2020.

According to the data, the first five countries in terms of the number of passengers traveling through Abu Dhabi International Airport in 2021 are India (932,949 passengers), Pakistan (550,728 passengers), Egypt (446,883 passengers), the United States of America (254,201 passengers) and Saudi Arabia (244,954 passengers).

The five most popular destinations in the same year were Cairo (372,456 passengers), Islamabad (209,280 passengers), Delhi (197,012 passengers), Lahore (184,315 passengers) and Dhaka (182,983 passengers).

Abu Dhabi International Airport has made remarkable progress at various levels in terms of passenger services during 2021, according to the ACI indicators, including the hygiene index (95%), the feeling of safety (95%), the happiness index (94%), and the passenger health and safety index (92.9%). .

The Airports Council International report indicated that Abu Dhabi International Airport obtained 92% of the overall customer satisfaction index.

The baggage service achieved a remarkable distinction, with 5,377,208 bags processed through the airport baggage system in 2021, including 3,878,132 departing bags with a 99.8% delivery success rate.

Abu Dhabi Airports also announced the volume of cargo traffic in 2021 through Abu Dhabi International Airport, where 711,715 tons of cargo was handled, an increase of 31.8% compared to 540,144 tons in 2020.

The surge in volumes was attributed to increases in general and specialty cargo shipments, including express, temperature sensitive, valuables and pharmaceuticals.

Air mail volumes also increased in 2021, with 8,767 tons transported through Abu Dhabi International Airport’s cargo facilities, an increase of 13.1% compared to 7,749 tons handled in 2020.
