The freight activity of the large maritime port of Guadeloupe on the rise

The Grand Port Maritime de la Guadeloupe is doing well, as shown by the prosperous financial results communicated on Friday.

Freight activity is particularly flourishing.

4.2 million tonnes of goods were handled in the Guadeloupe port, i.e. 18% more than in 2020. Transshipment activity increased by 30%.

No cruise

Passenger transport happens to be the rare negative point in the balance sheet.

Inter-island trips recorded a sharp decline of 49% compared to their pre-pandemic level.

The number of passengers passing through the port fell by 62%.

The absence of a cruise ship in 2021 explains the phenomenon.

The good economic health of the Grand maritime port of Guadeloupe suggests good prospects.

The structure will continue its development thanks to new investments.

A wharf will in particular be enlarged to allow the docking of massive ships.

Other projects are planned, such as the installation of photovoltaic panels and eco-moorings.
