The energy transition is expensive for large retailers.

Department stores must adapt to new standards, for example by setting up electrical terminals in car parks or by installing photovoltaic panels.

But these operations have a cost, around 4 billion euros per year.

Retailers are therefore asking for a tax gesture.

DECRYPTION

The energy transition is expensive for large retailers.

Department stores have to adapt to new standards.

This legal obligation makes the main interested parties cringe.

Because the cost of the new installations is estimated at 4 billion euros, according to the association which brings together these players in the large distribution sector, such as Carrefour, Auchan or even Intermarché but also large furniture stores such as Ikéa or even shopping centers. .

Too high a bill

All are subject to new environmental standards, which require for example to change the lighting or the fridges to consume less energy.

But the bill is much too high and, at the end of the chain, it is our receipt that could feel it.

"We are not opposed to improving the environmental quality of our commercial sites. Our request is that the candidates for the presidential election undertake to help, to help us in the implementation of these investments so as not to having to choose between purchasing power and the environment", explains Franck Charton, the general delegate of the Perifem association, at the microphone of Europe 1.

A tax gesture

These supermarkets therefore require a tax gesture to reduce the bill.

But we must not forget that some of this equipment, such as solar panels, is also a source of income for these stores since they can resell part of the electricity they produce and therefore reduce their bills.
