His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai World Trade Center Authority, inaugurated yesterday the 27th edition of Gulfood, the world's largest food and beverage supply event, at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

His Highness toured the exhibition, accompanied by the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, and the Director General of the Dubai World Trade Center Authority, Hilal Saeed Al Marri, where the exhibition is scheduled to witness, during the next five days, a review of the latest innovative solutions, to meet new trends and preferences. In addition to studying the challenges facing the sector, developing effective plans, and concluding commercial deals that will chart the features of a better future.

The industry-leading platform brings together more than 4,000 companies from 120 countries, and many prominent speakers with the world’s elite chefs, with the aim of advancing the sector in light of the rapid transformations it is witnessing, and allows visitors to meet buyers looking for opportunities to make deals on the latest products, Exhibitors seek to attract customers to conduct business deals.

Over the course of five days, it will present specialized studies and analyzes on sustainability, the growing role of e-commerce in the sector, pioneering technology techniques and effective innovations.

"Gulfwood Inspire"

Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi inaugurated the new Gulfood Inspire conference, which hosts a diverse group of speakers, including business leaders in the food and beverage sector, ministerial figures, policy makers, retail CEOs, technology experts, agriculture experts, analysts, and industry experts. Foreseeing the future who shared valuable ideas and specialized expertise to develop the sector.

Gulfood exhibition in its 2022 session will witness wide participation from around the world, including new pavilions for the Norwegian seafood sector, in addition to Uruguay, Panama and Uzbekistan, and it also includes new participants from Australia, Colombia, South Africa, Switzerland and Hong Kong.

Exhibitors, both new and regular, are keen to take advantage of all the opportunities that the event has to offer this week.

France recorded a strong return this year, with the presence of 69 companies, in a move that seeks to provide the best French food and drinks in the region, most notably Business France, the government institution aimed at supporting companies in export and expansion projects.

The Gulfood initiative to reduce food waste, in its first session this week, is being held in the context of promoting communication and innovation, and charting the features of positive change to reach a better future, with the aim of stimulating the efforts of stakeholders in the food sector, and encouraging food lovers to take effective steps.

The initiative’s activities include collecting food waste from exhibitors’ products and cooking stands during the exhibition, and converting it into basic fertilizer and organic products, in partnership with The West Lab, a startup specialized in employing food waste in purposeful projects.

Gulfood Innovation Awards

The first edition of the "Champion of Food Waste Reduction" award will be launched during the exhibition, honoring the best comprehensive solutions designed to meet the global challenges facing the food and beverage sector.

The Gulfood Innovation Awards are back in force this week, with groundbreaking innovations designed to advance the sector.

The prizes are divided into eight categories, from sustainable packaging solutions, health and plant-based wellness, to frozen and refrigerated food innovations, with winners to be announced (Monday) February 14.

«Gulfwood Top Table»

The new Gulfood Top Table event, in conjunction with the exhibition, seeks to elevate food experiences to unprecedented levels, through a series of live demonstrations and workshops, under the supervision of elite award-winning chefs and social media celebrities specialized in the food sector.

The event includes more than 70 chefs from 50 restaurants, working to create 1,000 dishes, in the presence of a number of media personalities, innovators, visionaries and pioneers in the sector.

Youth competition

The Gulfood Youth Competition, the new platform that launches this week, aims to empower young people and ensure a bright future for the sector.

In its first session, it also seeks to help emerging Emirati talents transform their passion into a prestigious career, in addition to giving them the opportunity to learn from the most famous chefs who will provide educational experiences in a practical and direct way.

The competition is expected to witness an exciting competition among Emirati talents, where the winner will receive the opportunity to intern at one of the Hilton hotels in Europe this summer, while the second place will receive a 25% scholarship to study in the Culinary Arts Program of the Dubai College of Tourism .

Safety and hygiene procedures

Gulfood 2022 will continue until February 17, under a strict set of safety and hygiene measures to ensure a safe working environment.
