Emirates Airlines and Maldives are studying “code sharing”

Emirates Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Maldives Airlines to explore “codeshare” opportunities, domestic flights, and joint holiday programs.

The two carriers are studying a "code-sharing" agreement, which will enable Emirates Airlines customers to book and travel easily from the Maldivian capital, "Male", to more than 15 domestic and international destinations served by Maldivian Airlines.

Emirates Airlines and the Maldives Airlines will also explore opportunities for cooperation between their two arms to operate private flights, to offer special holiday packages, including hotel accommodation in world-class luxury resorts and exclusive tours.

The Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates Airlines, Adnan Kazim, said that the Maldives is one of the most popular and popular entertainment destinations on the Emirates network.

He stressed that the codeshare and Interline agreement will greatly benefit both carriers, pointing out that enhancing communication to and from the Maldives will make it easier for Emirates customers traveling from there to access the carrier's extensive network that covers more than 120 destinations across Dubai.

In turn, the Minister of Finance of the Maldives, Ibrahim Amir, said, "(Emirates Airlines) has a great positive impact on the tourism industry in our country, as it is the largest air carrier in the world in terms of international passenger traffic.

The potential partnership between the two airlines will benefit our economy and enhance economic relations between the Maldives and the UAE.”

For his part, Chief Executive Officer of Maldives, Mohamed Mehad, said that the future partnership with the largest international airline in the world will provide endless opportunities for the Maldives.

He added, "The growth prospects that can result from such a partnership are an essential element as we look to expand our operations and develop partnerships that will allow us to enhance our business."
