The Facebook group Meta has also received the green light from the German Federal Cartel Office to take over the start-up Kustomer – despite the authority's "tummy ache".

The company, founded in 2015, offers customer service platforms and so-called chatbots that answer inquiries automatically.

Cartel Office President Andreas Mundt emphasized on Friday that Kustomer could be a relevant building block for Meta's strategy.

"Nevertheless, we had to admit with a certain stomach ache that the effects of the takeover would not have justified a ban under the applicable antitrust law." The authority also took into account the result of the examination by the EU Commission, which approved the deal at the end of January .

The Brussels competition authorities accepted promises from Meta that the group would not discriminate against Kustomer competitors when accessing its services such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.

The Commission had come to the conclusion that the Facebook group Meta had "the possibility and an economic incentive to pursue foreclosure strategies against Kustomer's close competitors and new market entrants".
