A company in a building claims to detect diseases through genetic testing. Buying and taking their genetic health drugs will definitely cure diseases, and long-term use is also good for the body.

Do you believe in such a scam?

Recently, the Shanghai Pudong police have gone all out, starting with the promotion of health care products worth 1,000 yuan, and have uncovered four such fraud gangs, involving a total amount of more than 12.5 million yuan.

One day, the Puxing Road Police Station of the Pudong Public Security Bureau received an alarm from Ms. Xie, a resident of the district, who claimed that she had spent 24,000 yuan to buy six boxes of expired health care medicines.

The "gene health products" seized by the police and the captured criminal gangs are provided by the Shanghai Public Security Bureau.

It is understood that Ms. Xie saw an advertising card in her mailbox at home, which said that the elderly over the age of 70 could be given free multi-functional trolleys and walking shoes for the elderly. Ms. Xie called the number on the card.

Soon, a man who claimed to be Manager Xu took Ms. Xie into a building with the words "Huaxia Gene".

Ms. Xie saw many elderly people in the room. After listening to a "Professor Zhang" class, she accepted what the other party called "genetic testing". Ms. Xie was then taken into a small room alone.

In the room, "Professor Zhang" analyzed the physical symptoms found through genetic testing for Ms. Xie, and told Ms. Xie that purchasing their genetic health medicines would definitely be able to cure her and treat bowel cancer. Long-term use is very good for her body.

Ms. Xie believed it to be true. After paying the deposit of 100 yuan, "Manager Xu" sent it home to get the bank card, and then paid the remaining 23,900 yuan by pulling the card from the POS machine in Manager Xu's car, and got six boxes of medicines.

Unexpectedly, Ms. Xie took it home and found that these medicines had passed the "expiration date".

Coincidentally, the Puxing Road police station soon received a report of a similar police situation. Ms. Sun spent 52,000 yuan to buy 12 boxes of similar health care products and found that she was cheated.

This has attracted the attention of the police. This is obviously a typical fraud scheme targeting the elderly. The Criminal Investigation Brigade of Waigaoqiao Public Security Department intervened immediately and comprehensively analyzed all similar police situations in the area. A similar situation exists.

After the related cases were concatenated, the Waigaoqiao Public Security Department, together with the relevant departments of the sub-bureau and 11 police stations in the jurisdiction, immediately set up a task force to carry out in-depth investigations.

After a careful investigation, the task force successfully locked the suspect and obtained relevant criminal evidence.

At about 23:00 on January 12, the task force was divided into multiple groups. In Minhang, Songjiang and other areas of the city, 91 gang members including Jia Moumou, Zhuang Mou, Zhuang Moumou and other suspects suspected of fraud were arrested in one fell swoop. There are 4 fraud gangs under the guise of "Gene Company" and "Cultural Communication Co., Ltd.".

The preliminary examination revealed that from 2021 to the present, these gangs have lured victims to participate in so-called "health lectures", "genetic testing" and "expert free consultations" by issuing "small cards", telemarketing, etc. The efficacy of health care products such as oral liquid" and "Shanxi old vinegar" caused the victim to buy health care products or food that were significantly higher than the market price in fear.

The reporter learned that this scam targets the elderly over 70 years old, especially those who are widowed or not close to their children, to obtain benefits through companionship.

Some elderly victims said that they also felt that these health care products were ineffective, but out of trust in the dealers, they continued to provide payment for the goods.

However, these gorgeously packaged "gene health products" have extremely low purchase prices, and there are no official sales channels. Some drugs are only sold for less than 300 yuan, but they are sold at a high price of 30,000 yuan.

According to a preliminary review of the capital accounts of the four criminal gangs involved, the amount involved is as high as more than 12.5 million yuan, and more than 800 victims are involved.

At present, 89 suspects including Jia Moumou have been detained and 2 have been released on bail pending trial.

The case is under further review.
