According to the announcement, at about 10:20 a.m. on February 6, 2022, 6 operators of MCC Baosteel Technical Service Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Metallurgical Corporation of China, were working on the desulfurization and denitrification system of the belt roaster in the ironmaking general plant of Maanshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. During emergency repair operations due to abnormal ash leakage in silo D, the ash hopper body suddenly cracked, and a large amount of desulfurized ash came out, resulting in the death of 4 operators of MCC Baosteel Technology who were repairing the ash hopper and 2 others were injured.
Among the two injured workers, one suffered minor burns to his arm; the other is being treated in the hospital and his vital signs are stable.
China Metallurgical Corporation stated that the belt roaster desulfurization and denitrification system of Maanshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. Ironmaking General Plant was completed and put into use on November 30, 2021, and is currently in the functional assessment and acceptance period.
The company did not participate in the design, construction and supervision of the project.
On January 1, 2022, MCC Baosteel Technology and Maanshan Iron & Steel signed the "Entrustment Operation Contract for Environmental Protection Facilities", and MCC Baosteel Technology was responsible for the desulfurization and denitrification system equipment, facility maintenance, repair, The contract period is from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022.
MCC said that after the accident, the company immediately launched a comprehensive emergency response plan for production safety accidents.
The relevant person in charge of the company rushed to the accident scene as soon as possible, and immediately established the accident emergency rescue headquarters to urgently deploy the accident emergency rescue work.
In the next step, MCC will fully cooperate with the government to investigate the accident and carefully identify the cause of the accident.
