The former Commerzbank boss and UBS top manager Martin Blessing is to take over the chairmanship of the board of directors at Danske Bank.

Danske Bank will propose Blessing as the successor to Karsten Dybvad, who will resign at the next general meeting, Denmark's largest financial institution announced on Tuesday.

Dybvad started a good three years ago with the aim of getting Danske Bank back on track after the multi-billion dollar money laundering scandal.

Blessing joined the Danske board of directors in 2020.

If he is elected head of the committee, he will ensure that the bank's positive development continues, the 58-year-old promised.

Blessing was head of Commerzbank from 2008 to 2016.

He then went to the major Swiss bank UBS, where he was initially responsible for Swiss retail banking.

In 2018, Blessing became co-head of the core division of wealth management.

After a rather weak development of the department, he had to resign after only three years at UBS.

Most recently, Blessing appeared primarily in the business with empty company shells (SPACs).

The massive money laundering scandal at Danske Bank had shaken the entire industry.

From 2007 to 2015, suspicious payments with a volume of 200 billion euros were processed via the Estonian Danske branch.

The Danske general meeting is scheduled for March 17th.
