Amazon announced on Tuesday that it has hired 4,000 people in 2021 in France, beyond its initial ambitions, and has the objective of creating 3,000 additional positions in 2022 to reach a total workforce of 18,500 people on permanent contracts in the country.

"We have created more than 10,000 permanent jobs in France over the past five years," said managing director Frédéric Duval, quoted in a press release.

"Thanks to these investments, Amazon has become one of the main job creators in France", assures the manager, who specifies that the group has invested more than 11 billion euros in France since 2010.

The positions to be filled concern all types of profiles, all levels of skills and experience.

New employees may be "maintenance technicians, supplier relations managers, 'data scientists', product managers, or even human resources managers" for example.

Around 13,000 French SMEs that have created 25,000 jobs in France work with the multinational and have generated export sales via Amazon of more than 400 million euros, according to the group.

"After 24 months on a permanent contract, the remuneration of an order picker is 26% higher than the minimum wage. In addition to this, employees have a free share allocation plan, a participation and various bonus mechanisms", lists the group.

Amazon announced in mid-November that it had paid more than 600 million euros in compulsory levies in 2020 in France, where the group says it has achieved a turnover of 7.3 billion euros.

The company, whose offices in France are shared between La Défense and the headquarters in Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine), has more than 30 logistics sites in the country, including eight distribution centers.

The last was inaugurated in August in Augny, near Metz.

By way of comparison, Amazon announced in early February the creation of 25,000 jobs in the United Kingdom in 2021, 15,000 more than expected.

It now has more than 70,000 employees in this country.
