Nothing is more unpleasant than a poorly insulated room (against cold and heat) where humidity causes condensation on the walls.

Nothing more annoying either than a partition that does not filter noise.

However, the technique of doubling the walls is rather effective in reinforcing the interior and even exterior insulation of a habitat.

Specialty stores now offer dubs for every need.

Some insulation is even very thin, between 3 and 6 mm, and sticks like a tapestry, thus avoiding reducing the surface of the room.

Most insulators come in plasterboard and are now increasingly replacing conventional plaster.

But there are many other insulating materials such as polystyrene or gypsum-cellulose boards, which are more ecological.

An extra thick structure

Lining a wall consists of placing extra thickness plasterboard on the wall to be covered.

However, this technique requires that the surface be regular, clean, dry and smooth.

The absence of humidity is indeed essential for the lining because a damp wall would sooner or later degrade the insulation.

The plates can be laid in different ways, either using a special glue compatible with the material chosen, or using a framework made up of steel rails which are fixed to each other.

This last solution is an asset to further improve the thermal performance of the wall, since the space between the plate and the wall can be used to insert ecological insulation such as flax fibers, straw or hemp.

The plates are then easily assembled with a screwdriver and specific screws for plasterboard.

The doubling technique is not reserved for classic walls.

The stone partitions can also be lined provided that the joints are redone and a thick layer of lime/hemp plaster is applied.

Once the plates are installed, their insulation and solidity must be perfected with the joints, after which they can be decorated almost like any wall.

A new space to decorate

After drying and sanding any irregularities, the plasterboards can normally be painted or wallpapered.

For slightly heavier coverings, such as tiles, a special adhesive must be used beforehand to support such a weight.

That's the downside of this system.

Laying plasterboard can prevent the installation of too heavy objects such as a mirror, a frame or a shelf.

Lining therefore remains the best solution if the wall is not intended to receive too much decoration.
