NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is taking over the post of head of the Norwegian central bank this year.

This was announced by the government in Oslo on Friday.

Until the head of NATO, who is currently called upon to act as crisis manager in the Ukraine conflict, can take office, the deputy head of the central bank, Ida Wolden Bache, is to fill the position on an interim basis from March.

Stoltenberg has previously emphasized that he intends to complete his term in NATO by the end of September.

In mid-December 2021, the 62-year-old Norwegian then made his ambitions public in his home country.

Stoltenberg was on the official list of applicants published by the Norwegian Ministry of Finance along with 21 other people.

In Norway is

he

was prime minister for a long time before joining NATO.

He was contacted by the Treasury Department in November to ask if he would consider applying, he said

Stoltenberg in a statement at the time.

It is a job for which he is very motivated.

Stoltenberg emphasized in December that he had made it clear to the ministry that he could only take up the post on October 1, 2022, after his NATO time had expired.

He has been in office since 2014 and his current mandate was confirmed in March 2019.

A further extension was considered unlikely.
