After shunning life insurance in 2020, the French have returned massively to this savings product by depositing more than 150 billion euros last year, unheard of, France Assureurs, the professional federation of insurance, revealed on Thursday. 'assurance.

The difference between deposits, also called contributions, and benefits (paid in the event of death or retirement) reached 23.7 billion euros, a level not seen since 2010, also underlined the former French Federation of l 'assurance.

In 2020, the health crisis had caused historic disinterest in this financial product, with benefits exceeding contributions by 6.5 billion euros.

Investments on the rise

In 2019, the French had placed on their life insurance 21.9 billion euros more than they had withdrawn.

According to Franck Le Vallois, there is still oversaving linked to the Covid except that it is no longer oriented solely towards short-term savings, as was observed at the start of the spread of the pandemic.

In 2020, unlike life insurance, Livret A had, for example, been a huge success.

At the end of December, total outstanding life insurance contracts reached 1.876 billion euros, up 4.4% year-on-year.

This level of outstandings makes it the preferred savings product of the French.

The other lesson from the data revealed by the federation concerns the strong increase in investments in units of account (UA), more profitable but also more risky than funds in euros, whose capital is guaranteed.
