“Mining is not directly within the competence of the Bank of Russia, however, we see great risks from the institutionalization of mining, since this activity poses significant threats to the country’s economy and citizens,” the TASS regulator quotes a statement.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked the country's government and the Central Bank to hold discussions regarding cryptocurrency and report on the results.
On January 25, Ivan Chebeskov, director of the financial policy department of the Ministry of Finance, opposed the proposed ban on cryptocurrencies in the country by the Central Bank.
He noted that he considers it necessary to introduce regulation of the digital asset market.
