In one year, the price of refueling has risen sharply at the pump.

On the occasion of a special day dedicated to the purchasing power of the French, one of the major concerns of the latter, Europe 1 returns to the three factors which explain that the dial of the price moves much faster than that of the liters when we're full.

This is one of the major concerns of French motorists: the price of their full.

A concern that the increase in the mileage allowance scale does not seem to have calmed.

And for good reason, prices have been soaring for a year (see infographic) the price of a 40-litre tank of petrol has increased by an average of 12 euros, and 13.5 euros for diesel.

Brent on the rise...

This increase is primarily explained by the rise in the price of a barrel of Brent, which passed the 90 dollar mark for the first time since 2014. Only a year ago, it was trading for only 55 dollars, an increase of 63.64%.

A situation which is partly explained by the coronavirus: the panic caused by Omicron being in the process of settling according to the experts, the demand rises and the prices with it.

But we must also take into account the very tense geopolitical situation in Ukraine.

...and a weak euro

"If we really had an armed conflict around Ukraine, this would cause a spike in gas prices and inevitably oil would follow," warns economist Philippe Chalmin at the microphone of Europe 1.

In such a situation "Brent would cross the 100 dollar mark".

Finally, the exchange rate helps to spin the price dial faster than liters at the pump.

With a weaker euro, oil prices are higher even if the price of a barrel of Brent in dollars remains the same.
