Jean Castex announced on Tuesday afternoon the 10% increase in the mileage allowance scale.

The Prime Minister promises entry into force this week and therefore a “quick and direct” effect from the next income tax declaration.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced a 10% increase in the mileage allowance scale.

A tax aid that allows people with high transport costs in the context of their work to benefit from a reduction in income tax.

Satisfied fat riders

At the pump of the Valentine commercial area in Marseille, this announcement makes people happy.

The accounts are quickly made for Sylvie, who comes out of a 20-year-old petrol Volkswagen New Beetle.

On board this vehicle, she travels 50km round trip five times a week and her budget suffers.

"It represents €200 each month on my budget. It's very complicated because I work in Marseille but I live in Nans-les-Pins in the neighboring department of Var."

This mother wonders if this measure will be long-lasting or not, in the meantime she "will take what there is to take".

But this announcement offends many motorists like Thierry.

"Who will benefit from it? Only those who declare their expenses and who are taxable. For the others, we will continue to pay a maximum" he laments.

That is about 2.5 million households.

This 50-year-old recently became a real estate agent: "I started six months ago and today my fuel costs have doubled. So that may force me to stop, it's as simple as that ".

Lower taxes to reach more people?

On the nearby pump, Stéphane takes a look at the meter after refueling his small city car: "I put in 30 liters and I have it for 51€. I think the taxes should be lowered. There's not just VAT. On petrol, it's 80% tax. In this 80% there, can't we scratch things to remove? And then the price of petrol will drop for everyone.

These motorists feel excluded from a system of which they nevertheless consider themselves legitimate.
