China News Service, Changchun, January 25 (Reporter Guo Jia) Jilin, a major agricultural province in China, will increase the protection of black land in 2022.

At the two sessions of Jilin Province being held, the governor of Jilin Province, Han Jun, said that this year the province's conservation tillage area will reach more than 30 million mu.

Based on the province's existing 85.8195 million mu of cultivated land, the proportion of protected cultivated area is about 35%.

Black lands, known for their high yields, are significant for global food production.

At present, the black soil areas such as the Ukrainian Plain, the Mississippi Plain, the Northeast China Plain, and the Pampas Grassland have all suffered from soil loss, decreased fertility, and poor structure due to long-term high-intensity development and utilization.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the protection of black land, which is also known as "the giant panda in arable land".

Nearly 70% of the cultivated land in Jilin Province, located in the Northeast Plain of China, is black land, which has formed the famous "pear tree model" in the protection of black land.

The core of this model is to implement conservation tillage, reduce soil disturbance in the black soil plough layer, and return straw mulching to the field.

The "pear tree model" is also more productive while protecting.

According to recent data released by Jilin officials, in 2021, in the pear tree demonstration base, the corn yield per mu will be as high as 1,077 kilograms, setting a new record for high yield in Northeast China.

Jilin Province is China's pioneer in protecting black land.

Since 2019, the province's conservation tillage area has increased by about 10 million mu each year.

In 2021, the province's conservation tillage area will reach 28.75 million mu, accounting for more than 40% of the planned area in the three northeastern provinces and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, ranking first in China.

The contribution of black land to grain production in Jilin Province is obvious to all.

In 2021, the grain output of Jilin Province exceeded the 80 billion jin mark for the first time, reaching 80.784 billion jin, the growth rate ranking first among the top ten grain-producing provinces in China.

Prior to this, the grain output in Jilin Province had been stable at more than 70 billion catties for eight consecutive years.

Han Jun said that in 2022, Jilin Province will speed up the construction of the national food security industry belt and start the implementation of the "100 billion catties of grain" production project. The sown area of grain will be stabilized at more than 86 million mu, and the grain output in normal years will be stabilized at 80 billion catties. above.
