    After a very complicated 2020, it welcomed 3.6 million passengers.

More planes took off again and travelers returned to the Franco-Swiss Basel-Mulhouse airport in 2021. EuroAirport recorded traffic of 3.6 million passengers in 2021, i.e. 1 million more than the previous year, but also much less than in 2019.

"For this second year under the sign of the pandemic, we have observed a gradual recovery", commented Matthias Suhr, director of the airport.

In 2020, EuroAirport activity had fallen to 2.6 million passengers, far from its historic record of 9.1 million achieved in 2019.

Compared to this peak, the 2021 balance sheet thus remains lower by 60%, but “we experienced a good recovery from the summer and reached up to 60% of the figures for 2019 in the second half, even 80% on certain weekends. -ends”, related the director.

EuroAirport, which usually ranks 5th among French regional airports, hopes to continue its rise this year by reaching the threshold of 6.2 million passengers, added Philippe Gauthier, acting deputy general manager.

Easyjet main airline

As before the Covid-19 crisis, Easyjet remains by far the main company active in Basel-Mulhouse, with 57% of traffic captured, according to figures provided by airport management.

Freight traffic, on the other hand, increased last year by 10%, to reach 119,300 tonnes.

It benefited from new “all cargo” transport offers, to Toronto with Air Canada, and express freight was “carried” by the pandemic, with the transport of sanitary products, according to management.
