The Stellantis car factory, ex-PSA, in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin) will set up a night work team in mid-March for the ramp-up of the new Peugeot 308.

Consequence: 850 people will be mobilized from mid-March, said a spokeswoman for the management of the factory.

The site will therefore have to integrate an equivalent number of people, “mainly” by recruiting temporary workers, spread over all of its sectors.

Already recruiting for the day shift

Hiring in temporary work should be around 800, estimated Laurent Gautherat, spokesman for the union agreement FO / CFTC / CFE-CGC of Stellantis Mulhouse.

“Compared to the total figure of 850, we will have some returns of employees loaned to other Stellantis sites and temporary transfers from other factories, but all the rest will be interim”, he underlined. .

The Mulhouse site is already completing, by January 31, the establishment of a second day shift, which has also enabled the arrival of 850 employees, including around 750 temporary workers.

The two decisions have the same origin: the ramping up of production of the new Peugeot 308 in Mulhouse, according to the spokesperson.

“For the second day shift, it is linked to the sedan version, and that of night stems from the launch of the break version,” she explained.

This new version of the vehicle (308 SW) is expected in dealerships in March.

A first for two years

The new team arriving in March will "consolidate" the future of Stellantis Mulhouse, reacted Laurent Gautherat.

The allocation of the production of the new 308 makes it possible to relaunch the site, whose production fell to 65,000 vehicles last year, after 50,000 in 2020, against 230,000 in 2019, by the combined effect of the health crisis, the shortage of semiconductors and the shutdown of on-site manufacturing from 2008.

Stellantis Mulhouse employs 4,700 permanent employees for the assembly of the 308, 508 and DS7 models and for forging, foundry and mechanical activities for the entire automotive group.
