The European leader in retirement homes, Orpea, plunged on the stock market after the publication of a book-investigation.

The book, which is called "Les Fossoyeurs" written by Victor Castanet, describes with numerous supporting testimonies, the excesses of a system obsessed with profitability in certain nursing homes.

The Orpea group is in turmoil.

After the publication in the newspaper

Le Monde

of a few pages of the investigative book

Les Fossoyeurs

written by journalist Victor Castanet, the shares of the European leader in retirement homes fell on the stock market for the second day in a row, forced to suspend its title.

Rooms sometimes costing 12,000 euros per month

The story begins with the window of the Orpea brand.

We are at the "Les Bords de Seine" nursing home in Neuilly where diapers for residents are limited to three per day, including when they are sick.

At the entrance of the establishment, a smell of urine is felt.

Pensioners are not sufficiently changed.

Why ?

Orpea lacks nappies but also staff.

The rooms are however charged 6,500 euros per month, up to 12,000 euros for the most luxurious.

Victor Castanet manages to gather more than 200 testimonies from dissatisfied families about "rationed" meals, "unsatisfactory" hygiene care.

Then there is also the story of the writer Françoise Dorin, who died of a badly treated bedsore, a deep wound that had become bigger than a fist, according to her family.

The race for profitability

Beyond what can be considered mistreatment, Victor Castanet denounces the race for profitability to the detriment of the well-being of residents.

The group denounces false, outrageous and prejudicial accusations which show a clear will to harm.

The management of Orpea specifies that it is awaiting the publication of the book in its entirety before deciding on possible prosecution.

Orpea is not the only one to have unscrewed on the stock market on Monday, the Korian share also lost 12%, LNA Santé nearly 4%.
