Mercadona,
the company that employs the most people in Spain
, has agreed to raise the salary of its 93,000 workers, its entire workforce, by 6.5% in order, in this context of skyrocketing inflation, to guarantee the purchasing power of its employees.
This is stated in a statement, in which it explains that this measure "is adopted within
a complex scenario such as the one we are experiencing
and in which all the people who are part of Mercadona are essential to adapt with agility and determination."
The increase will be effective from January of this year, and
the minimum entry salary at Mercadona during the first year will be 1,425 euros gross
per month, 87 more per month than in 2021.
Mercadona has always boasted of betting on quality employment, "conciliation, training and the personal and professional development of those who make up its workforce".
During the confinement in March 2020, it gave a bonus to its workers, to compensate them for the effort made in those days prior to the first state of alarm.
The CPI in 2021 has closed with a rise of close to 7% and some companies are also passing on increases in wages.
A few days ago, Leroy Merlin also announced that he was going to give his workers a bonus
, in addition to raising their salaries, also to guarantee their purchasing power.
