“The European Trade Union Confederation warns of an increase in energy poverty due to the implementation of measures within the Fit for 55 program. It is concerned about the prospect of 50 million households falling into energy poverty,” said Reil.

Against this background, the parliamentarian asked the EC what assessment activities the commission had carried out regarding the possible consequences of the implementation of the Green Deal (“European Green Deal”) and Fit for 55 (“Readiness - 55”) programs “in terms of energy poverty”.

Last October, Bulgarian MEPs said the Fit for 55 plan would be "economic suicide" for the EU.

Later, their colleagues from Italy raised the issue of a possible connection between the energy crisis in the EU and the Green Deal transition strategy.

Fit for 55 is a program launched by the EC in the summer of 2021 to combat climate change.

It involves the active use of "clean" technologies by European companies.

The Green Deal is an EU strategy adopted in 2019.

It aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
