Emirates Airlines announced that, after telecom operators delayed the date of deploying 5G networks around airports in the United States, the US Federal Aviation Administration and the American Boeing Company issued official notices lifting restrictions on flight operations, enabling Emirates Airlines to Fully restore regular operations to all US destinations safely by Saturday, January 22nd.

Resume flights

Emirates Airlines stated that, as of Friday, January 21, it will resume operating its Boeing 777 flights to: Chicago, Dallas, Fort Worth, Miami, Newark, Orlando, and Seattle.

Emirates Airlines indicated that its services to Los Angeles, New York JFK, and Washington, DC, have not stopped, at a time when flights will return to Boston, Houston and San Francisco, on which the airline used the A380 aircraft. Temporarily, on January 20 and 21, it will be operating on Boeing 777 aircraft, starting from Saturday, January 22.

Emirates Airlines stated that it also operates Boeing 777 freighters to Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Columbus and Aguadilla, to transport exports and basic goods, such as food and essential medicines.


Risk assessment

Emirates Airlines pointed out that although it was aware of the potential interference between aircraft systems and the frequencies of the fifth generation networks deployed near some American airports, the complete information about the size and nature of the interference on sensitive aircraft systems, and the potential impact and threat to operations that may be exposed. Flying in certain scenarios, including landing in poor visibility conditions, were not demonstrated until shortly before 5G systems were deployed.

After assessing the potential risks to the security and safety of operations, and consulting with Boeing, Emirates Airlines decided on January 19, to immediately suspend passenger flights operated by its Boeing 777 aircraft.

Emirates President Tim Clark said: "We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption of operations to our customers to and from some destinations in the United States.


He added: “While we welcome recent developments, which enable us to resume essential transportation links to the United States to serve passengers and freight customers, we are also well aware that this is a temporary reprieve and that a long-term solution is required, and we will continue to work with the aircraft manufacturers and relevant regulators to ensure the continued Our operations are completely safe.”
