According to the analyst, despite the fact that someone politically may not like the pipeline, and some EU members like Poland are constantly attacking the project, there are no sanctions against Nord Stream 2 by the European Union.

“Then whether you like him or not, whether you support him politically or not, there is EU legislation.

If you submit all the necessary documents, they are obliged to consider these applications in accordance with EU legislation, ”Yushkov explained.

He added that the EU has no claims to the gas pipeline.

The expert said that the only question that arises is related to the company that Gazprom is proposing as an operator.

“If there is no new law prohibiting commissioning (and this is possible only in the event of a serious deterioration in Russian-European relations), then in any case the gas pipeline will be commissioned.

It's just a matter of timing and who will be the operating company, ”the interlocutor of RT concluded.

Earlier, Borrell said that EU institutions, including the European Commission, cannot prohibit the implementation of Nord Stream 2 if it is carried out in accordance with European rules.

According to him, the infrastructure of the pipeline is ready and is undergoing a qualification process in the regulators of the Federal Republic of Germany, and then the European Union.

He said that the regulators will determine whether the project can "function within the European gas supply system."
