Among major trading companies, the business of constructing a dedicated solar power generation facility for companies and supplying electric power is starting.

ITOCHU will invest in "Clean Energy Connect," a company engaged in the solar power generation business, and will embark on a new business that directly supplies solar power to companies under a long-term contract of 20 years.

This power generation company bundles multiple small and medium-sized solar power generation facilities to supply electricity.

By April, we will build new facilities in more than 30 locations in the Kanto and Tohoku regions to supply electricity to companies in Tokyo.

After that, we plan to increase the number of contractors and increase the number of power generation facilities to about 5,000 by 2025.

Yoichi Murakami, Chief of the Renewable Energy Business Division of ITOCHU Corporation, said, "The needs of companies that want to procure electricity directly from renewable energy are increasing, and we want to build a sufficient supply system."

In addition to this, Mitsubishi Corporation plans to supply solar-generated electricity to the bases of Amazon, a major IT company in the United States, and some stores of Lawson, a major convenience store, in Japan.

As the need for renewable energy increases toward decarbonization, the business of supplying solar power is starting to move among major trading companies.
