Good news for the French economy?

Household consumption of goods picked up again in November in France, increasing by 0.8% over one month thanks in particular to a sharp rebound in purchases of manufactured goods (+ 1.5%), according to figures from the Insee published on Friday.

The indicator's recovery comes after a decline of 0.6% in October, a figure revised downward by 0.2 point by statisticians.

Increase in new car sales

The renewed interest of consumers in manufactured goods was fueled by a 3% increase in purchases of durable goods, which is explained "mainly by the sharp rebound in purchases of household capital goods (furniture, computers) and to a lesser extent by an increase in sales of new cars, ”explains INSEE.

The consumption of other manufactured goods (+ 0.3%) and especially of clothing and textiles (-0.7%) was much less dynamic.

Energy (+ 0.5%) and food (+ 0.3%) expenditure also supported the recovery in household consumption.

Regarding energy, "this increase is due both to the increase in fuel consumption and that of electricity and gas," says INSEE.
