  • The Ardèche specialist in chestnut-based products, located in Aubenas, has even acquired a 30% stake in Terre adélice.

  • The two family businesses highlight “the desire to keep a local and family dimension”.

The Ardèche unites its forces. The maker of artisanal organic ice creams and sorbets Terre adélice has just announced that it is partnering with Sabaton. The Ardèche specialist in chestnut-based products, located in Aubenas, has in the process invested up to 30% of the capital of Terre adélice. Founders of the company located in Saint-Sauveur-de-Montagut in 1996, Xavier Rousselle retired in 2020, while his brother Bertrand plans to do the same in the short term, the time to hand over the baton to the new team. leader.

The two “essential” entities of Ardèche highlight “an opportunity for collaboration, sharing of good practices, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR), and sustainability”.

Bertrand Roussel's son-in-law, Bastien Laval (36), who joined Terre adélice in October 2020 as Managing Director, is delighted with this agreement: “There was a reflection on the handover for the Roussel brothers.

And rather than selling their company to a large group, they wanted to keep a local and family dimension ”.

"We quickly thought that we could enrich each other"

Supplier of Adélice Land for fifteen years, Christophe Sabaton therefore officially took part of the shares in the capital of the Roussel brothers (who remain in the majority at more than 55%) on January 1. "Even if we do not know exactly where the synergy will take us, we quickly thought that we could mutually enrich each other", sums up the one who is at the head of a confectionery company founded in 1907, and which has the equivalent. 75 full-time full-year employees.

"Christophe Sabaton had a real altruistic desire to help another major Ardèche company," says Bastien Laval.

It turns out that he shares a lot of common values with us.

In addition, our seasons are complementary, since our peak of activity takes place during the summer holidays, while it is during the end-of-year holiday period for Sabaton, with the confection of candied chestnuts.

146 flavors of ice cream, including Roquefort and smoked pepper

Christophe Sabaton is now part of the management committee of Terre adélice, which has around thirty employees on the production site, to which he has added the Lyon ice cream parlor since 2010, as well as that of Grenoble (2018), and that attached to the production site in Saint-Sauveur-de-Montagut since last summer. Quickly become emblematic in the so touristy rue Saint-Jean (Lyon 5th district), with its 146 à la carte fragrances, "including very innovative ones such as Roquefort and smoked pepper", Terre adélice is keen to maintain its strong values.

"We refuse to sell our 100% organic ranges in supermarkets or for export," insists Bastien Laval.

Like Sabaton, our company is not in a frenetic race for growth.

"With 5.5 million euros in turnover in 2020, and" a little more "last year, Terre adélice remains a major player in the Ardèche agrifood sector.

"While some may have had this fear, I assure you that Christophe Sabaton came to be an important player but not to take control of Terre adélice," concludes Bastien Laval.
