The Japanese electronics giant Sony presented a new prototype of its Vision S electric car on Tuesday. It also announced the creation of a new subsidiary to explore this rapidly expanding market.

On the stage of CES in Las Vegas, the annual meeting of consumer electronics, the company unveiled the Vision-S 02, a new version of its first prototype, which is tested on the roads.

The group, better known for its televisions and video game consoles (Playstation), will create a subsidiary called Sony Mobility in spring 2022. Through this new branch, Sony "intends to explore the possibility of investing in the electric vehicle market" , specifies the press release.

Innovation of mobility.

Autonomous driving in test

The Vision S is loaded with internal and external sensors, and is used by Sony in particular to test its autonomous, driverless driving technologies.

The company is also working on the design of immersive entertainment systems.

The electric vehicle sector is still tiny: it only represents 3% of current sales in the United States.

But it is generating a lot of interest and investment.

General Motors plans to invest more than $ 35 billion in electric and autonomous vehicles by 2025. And in the United States, authorities plan to spend billions to strengthen the network of charging stations or encourage individuals to abandon their polluting vehicles.
