The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, and the Chairman and CEO of DB World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, along with a group of ministers from the Government of Senegal, heads of institutions and leaders of local communities.

The new project confirms the positive impact of the Emirate of Dubai in supporting infrastructure development projects necessary to stimulate sustainable development trends in the African continent, in light of the existing close cooperation relations with most of the countries of the brown continent, based on a firm basis of mutual trust, and working within constructive partnerships aimed at empowering countries Africa to accelerate the pace of development and advance the process of progress, especially at the economic level, while giving the private and semi-governmental sectors the necessary opportunities to activate this cooperation in accordance with international best practices.

The volume of investment represented in the development of the new “Nadayan” port amounts to more than one billion US dollars (more than 3.68 billion dirhams) in two phases, which is the largest investment by the “DB World” group in African ports to date, and is also the largest single investment by the private sector. in the history of Senegal.

President Macky Sall said, “The development of modern and high-quality port infrastructure is essential to driving economic growth. With the construction of the new port of Ndiaen, Senegal will have the most modern port infrastructure that will strengthen our country's position as a commercial hub and gateway for promoting trade and business in the West African region. This port will provide enormous economic opportunities for local companies, create more jobs, and enhance our ability to attract foreign investment to Senegal. We are pleased to extend our cooperation with DB World Group on this project, which has already achieved great results with the operation of the container terminal in Dakar Port.”

For his part, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said, “Laying the foundation stone today (yesterday) does not only represent the start of construction operations, but it also represents the beginning of an exceptional stage, to transform the Senegalese president’s vision into a tangible reality.

In our role as a major contributor to enabling global trade, we will put all our expertise and capabilities into the port project, which will enhance the development trends in Senegal during the next century.

The first phase of the port’s development includes the construction of a container terminal with a berth of 840 meters in length, in addition to a 5-km-long sea channel that can accommodate two containers of 336 meters in length at the same time, and handle the largest container ships in the world.

It will increase the container handling capacity by 1.2 million twenty-foot equivalent containers annually.

The second phase includes the development of an additional 410-meter container berth.

DB World's plans include developing an economic-industrial zone next to the port and near Blaise Diagne International Airport, creating an integrated industrial hub for transportation and logistics.
