China's shipbuilding industry has the largest number of orders in the world in 2021
According to preliminary statistics released on January 2 by the UK Clarkson Research Company, an authoritative research and analysis organization for the global shipbuilding and shipping market, global new ship orders in 2021 will be 1,846 45.73 million revised gross tonnages (CGT).
Among them, China undertook 965 vessels of 22.8 million CGT, ranking first in the world with a market share of nearly 50%; South Korea undertook 403 vessels of 17.35 million CGT, ranking second in the world with a market share of 38%.
It is understood that with the skyrocketing ocean freight rates since 2021, the number of container ship orders has increased by more than 10 times compared with 2020, and China has taken over 50% of container ship orders by virtue of its strong competitiveness.
On the other hand, due to the spread of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and the "super cycle" of the shipbuilding industry that has come again after a lapse of 10 years, the Korean shipbuilding industry's new ship orders in 2021 are uncharacteristically concentrated in the first half of the year, so they are receiving orders. Shanghai has always been ahead of China, but this situation reversed in September.
In September last year, Chinese shipping companies received orders for new ships of 1.95 million revised gross tonnage (75 ships), exceeding the 910,000 revised gross tonnage (14 ships) of Korean shipping companies, ranking first in the world.
