More than three quarters of the cars newly registered in 2021 were gray / silver, black or white, as the year before, as the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) announced on Thursday.

The VDA relied on figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority.

According to this, almost every third car newly registered from January to November 2021 belonged to the gray category, which is also assigned the color silver.

Almost every fourth new car is black, and more than every fifth is white.

White is the color that has grown the most in the past 15 years.

According to the information, only 1.6 percent of new car buyers decided in 2006 for a white car.

A good ten percent of newly registered cars are blue, and a good six percent are red.

According to the VDA, green has become somewhat more popular again at a low level: 1.7 percent is the highest value since 2005. This is followed by orange and yellow.

The VDA explains the color preferences with the expectations of many new car buyers for the chances of resale.

The decision is therefore made for a currently popular color such as black, white and gray / silver.

This means that there is a self-reinforcing effect in the choice of color.
