The employees of the two Daimler groups can look forward to a generous annual bonus shortly before Christmas.

As the car company and the recently spun off truck division announced on Wednesday, the employees will receive a profit sharing of 6000 euros for the year 2021.

Part-time employees and apprentices receive a lower amount.

According to the company, it is the highest profit-sharing in Daimler's history.

In the auto company, which is to be called Mercedes-Benz in the future, 100,000 “eligible employees” are paid in Germany, at Daimler Truck there are 25,000 employees.

However, before the amount is paid out, the employees have to be patient: According to the notification, the transfer should only be made with the February payment.

"Mammoth project" and semiconductor crisis

"That is the right signal to the workforce after another turbulent year with Corona, the semiconductor crisis, the resulting short-time work and, for many, permanent home office," said the Mercedes general works council chairman Ergun Lümali as quoted in the message. The Human Resources Director of Daimler Truck, Jürgen Hartwig, also referred to the “mammoth project” of the split-up, which had succeeded thanks to the efforts of the employees. One wanted to thank the employees with the payment, emphasized also Mercedes HR director Sabine Kohlenisen.

For 2020, the Daimler Group actually wanted to forego profit sharing, but subsequently paid a contribution of 500 euros.

There was also a corona bonus.

The bonus for 2019 was also rather meager at 597 euros plus a “recognition bonus” of 500 euros.

In the years up to 2018, amounts in the range of 5,000 euros had been paid.

Due to the lack of chips, Daimler sells significantly fewer vehicles.

However, there are currently far fewer discounts for cars and manufacturers are concentrating on producing more expensive models for which the return is higher.

Revenue and operating profit at Daimler are therefore expected to be significantly higher than in the previous year.

Other companies also repeatedly pay out high stakes.

Porsche made people sit up and take notice with investments of 8,000 or 9,000 euros.

The lubricant manufacturer Liqui Moly has already paid its employees 11,000 euros.
