If the stock market is currently down because of the latest information on the Omicron variant of Covid-19, trade so far is doing quite well.

And as the end of the year holidays approach, store visits are even on the rise.

A first since the start of the health crisis.

Are you one of those latecomers who buy their gifts at the last minute?

For the first time since the onset of the health crisis, attendance at shopping centers is once again in the green: 1.5% more than in 2019. Another good news for traders: the French, who have saved a lot during the crisis, around 180 billion euros, spend more in stores.

After a difficult year, "the spirit of spending" is very present

"The turnover increases faster than the frequentation, that is to say that the average basket is higher and the conversion rate is better", details Gontran Thuring, general manager of the national committee of the malls.

"The consumer is indeed a real consumer in shopping centers, he is less a walker and more a buyer."

The desire to have a little more pleasure this year is a phenomenon that is also noted by Francis Palombi, president of the Confederation of traders of France.

"The atmosphere to buy in stores is preserved. After a year of upset, anxiety, there is still the spirit of spending," he says.

But according to him, many French people have still got into the habit, with the crisis, of buying online rather than from independent traders.
