Regarding semiconductors, which are becoming more important in terms of economic security, a bill to revise related laws that includes subsidizing capital investment in factories to create a system that enables stable domestic production was passed at the House of Councilors plenary session on the 20th.・ It was established.

It is envisioned that TSMC, a major semiconductor company in Taiwan, will certify a new factory to be built in Kumamoto Prefecture.

A bill to amend the related law to support the construction of new advanced semiconductor factories was approved at the House of Councilors plenary session on the 20th, and was approved and passed by a large number of people in favor.

This amendment will set up a new fund to subsidize the cost of constructing a factory for advanced semiconductors, which is indispensable in fields such as data centers and autonomous driving.

The system is such that the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry approves the investment plan submitted by the business operator, and the conditions are to continuously produce and invest in Japan, increase production when supply and demand are tight, and technical information management. We are requesting the establishment of a system for this.

If this requirement is no longer met, the subsidy will be requested to be returned.

This is the first law in which the government subsidizes the construction of semiconductor factories.

It is envisioned that TSMC in Taiwan, the world's largest semiconductor contract manufacturer, and the Sony Group will jointly build a new factory in Kumamoto Prefecture.
