China News Service, December 16th. National Development and Reform Commission spokesperson Meng Wei said at a regular press conference on the 16th that the supply of important livelihood commodities during the "two festivals" period will be guaranteed and prices will remain stable.

A reporter asked at the meeting: The current global inflation spread, what impact will this have on China?

"Two Festivals" are approaching, will it affect the supply and price stabilization of important livelihood commodities?

What measures will the National Development and Reform Commission take in the next step to ensure supply and price stabilization during the "Two Festivals" period?

In this regard, Meng Wei said that since the beginning of this year, affected by multiple factors such as repeated epidemics, loose policies, and supply bottlenecks, the global price level has risen significantly, and the CPI and PPI of many economies have risen to multi-year highs or even record highs.

my country's economy has been deeply integrated into the global economy, and price trends will objectively be affected by external factors, especially the previous rise in international bulk commodity prices that pushed my country's PPI upward rapidly.

But overall, my country's price level remains within a reasonable range.

According to statistics released recently, in November, my country’s CPI and core CPI rose by 2.3% and 1.2% year-on-year, respectively. The average increase from January to November was 0.9% and 0.8%, which was much lower than that of major global economies. The tight supply of energy and raw materials that had caused excessive price increases in the previous period was gradually eased. The month-on-month increase in PPI narrowed sharply from 2.5% last month to zero, and the year-on-year increase narrowed by 0.6 percentage points.

Regarding the work of ensuring supply and price stabilization during the "Two Festivals", Meng Wei said that the New Year’s Day and the Spring Festival of 2022 are approaching. Several video conferences have been held and notices have been issued to deploy and carry out scheduling for the work of ensuring supply and price stabilization of important livelihood commodities this winter and next spring.

From the perspective of market conditions, the supply of important livelihood commodities is abundant and prices are basically stable.

This year's grain output hit a new high, the supply of live pigs and pork was sufficient, and the beginning of a large number of winter vegetables on the market also contributed to the decline in the price of vegetables that had risen in the previous period.

Judging from the progress of work in various regions, the work of ensuring supply and price stabilization is solid and effective.

In particular, large and medium-sized cities have generally enriched small-package finished grains and oils, increased reserves of pork and northern winter and spring vegetables, and achieved "goods in the warehouse."

In general, the supply of important livelihood commodities during the "Two Festivals" period will be guaranteed, and prices will remain stable.

Meng Wei said that in the next step, the National Development and Reform Commission will strengthen market price monitoring and early warning of important livelihood commodities, guide local areas to stabilize production, enrich commodity reserves, strengthen production and sales linkages, make emergency plans, and promptly adopt reserve releases, cheap sales, and sales in accordance with changes in market conditions. Effective measures such as unimpeded transportation and distribution will provide a more powerful guarantee for the stable operation of prices during the "two festivals" period and for the people's livelihood consumption.
