  Since China’s entry into the WTO, the scale of Sichuan’s imports and exports has shown rapid growth, especially since 2008. With the acceleration of Sichuan’s acceptance of the eastern processing trade industry and the rapid development of the construction of all-round water, land, air, and railway channels, a large number of Large enterprises and large projects have settled in Sichuan, driving the rapid growth of Sichuan's foreign trade.

The scale of Sichuan’s foreign trade exceeded 300 billion yuan in 2011, 600 billion yuan in 2019, and 800 billion yuan in 2020.

From January to November this year, Sichuan's foreign trade import and export scale reached 853.86 billion yuan, an increase of 16.2%, which has exceeded the entire year of 2020.

  Significantly enhanced endogenous power.

In the past 20 years, the proportion of Sichuan's private enterprises' trade has increased significantly, and the proportion of total imports and exports has increased from 9.7% in 2001 to 22.8% in 2020; from January to November this year, the proportion has further increased to 27.1%.

  Trading partners are more diverse.

From 2001 to 2020, the number of countries (regions) that have trade with Sichuan has increased from 170 to 181.

At the same time, Sichuan’s imports and exports to countries along the “Belt and Road” increased at an average annual rate of 18.1%, 1.3 percentage points higher than the overall average annual growth rate.

  The structure of export products continued to upgrade.

Over the past 20 years since China’s entry into the WTO, Sichuan’s exports of mechanical and electrical products have grown at an average annual rate of 11.2%, and their share of total exports has increased from 19.3% in 2001 to 87.8% in 2020.

From January to November this year, exports of mechanical and electrical products amounted to 420.18 billion yuan, an increase of 13.4%, accounting for 82.7% of Sichuan’s total foreign trade exports during the same period.
