Banco Santander will have to compensate the Italian banker Andrea Orcel with 68 million euros for his false signing as CEO at the end of 2018.
The judge estimates the lawsuit filed by Orcel after learning that the bank resigned from its hiring just four months after announcing its appointment before the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).
The sentence supposes the defeat of the president of the financial group and then close friend of Orcel,
Ana Botín
, who had defended during the trial that a formal contract was never signed and that the financier had breached part of the commitments agreed with the entity .
