From 1.46 trillion yuan (RMB, the same below) in 2001 to 7.09 trillion yuan in 2020, an increase of 384.9% and an average annual growth of 8.4%.

  The scale of import and export reached a new level.

Since China's entry into the WTO, the scale of Guangdong's imports and exports has risen to a higher level every two or three years. In 2003, the scale exceeded RMB 2 trillion, in 2010 it exceeded RMB 5 trillion, and in 2018 it exceeded RMB 7 trillion.

From January to October this year, Guangdong's foreign trade import and export scale reached 6.71 trillion yuan, an increase of 18.2% year-on-year, a record high in the same period.

  The structure of trade methods continued to be optimized.

In the 20 years since China's entry into the WTO, the proportion of Guangdong's general trade has increased significantly, and the proportion of total imports and exports has increased from 22.4% in 2001 to 51.2% in 2020.

From January to October this year, the proportion of general trade further increased to 52.4%.

  The number of foreign trade entities has doubled.

From January to October 2021, the number of enterprises with actual import and export performance in Guangdong exceeded 100,000, more than four times the number in 2001.

  Trading partners are more diverse.

The number of countries (regions) that have trade with Guangdong has increased from 214 in 2001 to 230 in 2020.

Trade with countries along the “Belt and Road” has grown rapidly.

Over the past 20 years, Guangdong’s imports and exports to countries along the “Belt and Road” have increased at an average annual rate of 7%, which is 5.3 percentage points higher than the overall average annual growth rate.

  The structure of export products continued to upgrade.

In the 20 years since China’s entry into the WTO, Guangdong’s exports of mechanical and electrical products have grown at an average annual rate of 11.2%, and the proportion of total exports has increased from 49% in 2001 to 68.4% in 2020.

From January to October this year, the proportion of exports of mechanical and electrical products further increased to 68.7%.

Continue to expand imports.

The total import value of Guangdong has increased from 671.63 billion yuan in 2001 to 2.74 trillion yuan in 2020, an average annual increase of 7.5%.
