The UAE Special Olympics and Expo 2020 Dubai signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday to encourage sports participation among people of determination with intellectual or developmental disabilities, by facilitating the use of the Sports, Fitness and Wellness Center located at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The partnership, signed between the two sides, enables people of determination to experience an area of 5,400 square meters dedicated to a wide variety of sports activities. It also includes bike tours with specialized guides to visit 192 pavilions of the various countries participating in Expo 2020 Dubai, and a fitness platform, which offers a range of It includes classes supervised by professional trainers, in addition to a multi-purpose sports court, an equipped gym, and a fitness studio.
Under the agreement, the UAE Special Olympics unified arts project called "Flowers of Hope", the first artwork designed in direct cooperation with artists of determination in the region, will be displayed in the Opportunity Zone from December 2021 to March 31, 2022.
The "Flowers of Hope" consists of seven flowers representing the seven Emirates. The 58 participating artists and their families made the flowers from ornate palm fronds, which are preserved on metal bases made by Emirati artist and designer Azza Al Qubaisi.
The signing ceremony was held at the Sports, Fitness and Wellness Center of the exhibition.
The agreement was signed by the National Director of the UAE Special Olympics, Talal Al-Hashemi, and the Chief Technology Officer of Expo 2020 Dubai, Mohammed Al-Hashemi, while four UAE Special Olympics players attended the signing ceremony.
Talal Al Hashemi said: "Expo 2020 Dubai announced that it will be the most comprehensive, inclusive and diversified compared to all previous sessions of the Expo, and today this promise has been confirmed.
