It is Wednesday that the reform of unemployment insurance comes into force, two months after the contested modification of the calculation of the allowance.
A new stage that Emmanuel Macron had conditioned on the economic recovery.
Concretely, the conditions for having access to unemployment rights are tightened.
One of the major projects of Emmanuel Macron's five-year term.
It is Wednesday that the last part of the unemployment insurance reform comes into force, two months after the much contested change in the calculation of the allowance.
A new stage that Emmanuel Macron had conditioned on the economic recovery.
It is therefore now a done deal.
And what changes, in concrete terms, are the conditions that open up rights to unemployment.
Have worked six months instead of four
From now on, to be able to be compensated, it will be necessary to have worked at least six months over the last two years, instead of four so far.
For those over 53, the last three years will be taken into account.
This new rule will apply to all new unemployed from Wednesday.
If you are seasonal, for example, and you work in the mountains in winter, you will need two seasons and no longer one to be able to claim unemployment, according to an impact study by Unédic.
This change will delay the opening of rights to 475,000 people from the first year of application.

Faster degression of allowances for executives
The other measure which comes into force today is the more rapid degression of allowances for executives.
If you are under 57 and earn more than 4,500 euros gross per month, your rights will drop by a third from the seventh month of unemployment.
It's two months less than before.
This measure will affect around 60,000 people next year.
