is the next-generation vehicle system semiconductor unveiled by Samsung Electronics.

By providing 5G communication service for the first time in the industry, it is possible to quickly receive information on traffic and surrounding conditions, which are the core of autonomous vehicles, and to perform real-time vehicle remote diagnosis.

It also introduced a chip that efficiently manages the power used inside the vehicle, which is increasing due to the increase of electronic components in the vehicle, and a semiconductor chip for vehicle infotainment, such as audio and voice recognition.

LG, which shows strength in the battery and electronics business, is also accelerating the development of semiconductors for vehicles.

LG is known to even consider acquiring a vehicle semiconductor design company.

Automotive semiconductors that Korean companies have been developing are advanced semiconductors for future vehicles such as electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles.

The demand is high enough to contain 300 semiconductors for a regular passenger car, 1,000 for an electric vehicle, and 2,000 for an autonomous vehicle.

[Lee Hang-gu / Research Fellow, Korea Automobile Research Institute: Existing internal combustion engine semiconductors are not used because of low added value, and it is believed that Samsung started production of semiconductors for future cars.]

The automotive semiconductor market, which stood at $45 billion at the beginning of this year, is expected to grow 7% annually to reach $67.6 billion in 2026.

Google and Tesla are already leading not only in designing their own semiconductors based on autonomous driving but also in software development.

Aiming at the high-tech semiconductor market for vehicle intelligence, competition is fierce not only from semiconductor companies, electronics companies, but also automakers.
