After Renault's announcement on Tuesday not to support the only takeover offer, the employees of the Aveyron foundry were under no illusions.

This Friday, the Toulouse commercial court confirmed the compulsory liquidation of the automotive supplier SAM and the immediate cessation of activity for its some 340 employees.

"The court puts an end (...) to the pursuit of activity authorized until December 10, 2021, within the framework of the judicial liquidation", he indicates in his judgment.

And to add that it will be necessary to “proceed with the redundancies as provided for” in the Commercial Code, “as well as the liquidation operations provided for” also in this Code for this type of situation.

Dreaded economic and social consequences

Taken over in 2017 by the Chinese group Jinjiang, the Aveyron metallurgy company, located in Viviez, not far from Decazeville, had been placed in receivership two years ago, before being placed in compulsory liquidation on September 16, with an extension of 'activity until December 10.

The only project to take over SAM was carried by one of its former bosses, supported by the regional council and the State.

Renault, for its part, considered that it “did not present the necessary conditions of sustainability and safety”.

Thursday evening, nearly 3,000 people according to the unions, in the presence in particular of the leader of the CGT, Philippe Martinez, demonstrated in Viviez.

This decision arouses anger in the former mining area of Decazeville, where the loss of 340 jobs could have serious consequences on the local economy.
