This is an "

unfortunate confusion due to human error,

" says the Israeli army, which promises to open an investigation.

Another body was returned to the family of Amjad Abu Sultan.

The 14-year-old Palestinian teenager was shot dead by soldiers as he was about to throw a Molotov cocktail at Israeli vehicles near Bethlehem, south of Jerusalem, last October.

The victim's father realized this error when transferring the body.

This macabre case highlights the Israeli policy of detaining the remains of Palestinian bombers.

A practice described by Palestinian NGOs as collective punishment of bereaved families.

For its part, Hamas still holds in Gaza the remains of two Israeli soldiers killed during the summer 2014 confrontation in the Palestinian enclave.

Israelis and Palestinians intend to use these corpses as part of prisoner exchanges.
