Last month's domestic shipments of digital home appliances such as TVs fell 24% from the same month last year, the fourth consecutive month of negative growth, due to the end of demand for nesting due to the new coronavirus and the impact of semiconductor shortages.

According to JEITA = Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, which is made by electric appliances manufacturers, the domestic shipment value of digital home appliances was 89.5 billion yen last month, a decrease of 24.6% from the same month last year.

The main reason for this is that the demand for nesting due to the spread of the new corona infection has run its course, and it has decreased for four consecutive months since July.

By product, sales of "automobile-related equipment" such as car navigation systems decreased by 35.8% due to the impact of the reduction in car production due to the global shortage of semiconductors.

“Video equipment” such as TVs and recorders decreased by 13.8%.

On the other hand, among "audio-related equipment," system audio increased for the first time in five months, as the infection with the new corona has subsided and performance can now be confirmed at stores.

Regarding the outlook for the future, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said, "Although the severe situation due to the end of the nesting demand has not changed, the infection of the new corona has settled down and the movement of people is returning, so consumption will rise toward the year-end sales season. I want to expect from you. "
